Our 3D printer

What are 3D printers anyway and what can we do with them?

Since 2021, we own a 3D printer in our office, which enables us to produce 3D-printed parts as part of running projects as well as in the form of independent engineering and production orders.

3D printers are not printers in the traditional definition. They produce three-dimensional components by applying material layer by layer. The materials that can be used in this process range from simple thermoplastic polyester such as PLA (polylactic acid) for design objects to functional plastic such as ASA (acrylnitril-styrol-acrylat-copolymere) and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) to fiber-reinforced plastics for extreme loads. Flexible materials such as TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) can also be printed.

In order to print an object, a digital volume model is required. These models can be created with our 3D CAD software. Depending on the function, geometry and material, the models must be prepared individually for printing.

Especially in the production of complex geometries and small quantities, 3D printing stands out compared to other manufacturing processes.

With a 3D printer at SBI, we create a new business area and can now also use our expertise as an engineering company for 3D printed parts.

Furthermore, we print internal prototypes in order to test our own ideas quickly and cost-effectively. In this way, we promote innovation and creativity at SBI.
